Trying something new for Skywatch Friday

Blogger informs me that I have reached my storage limit for photos.  In four months, I will be able to stay on the old plan (much cheaper) and renew for another year, so I'm trying ways of getting around this problem in the mean time.  One option that I thought of is to post my photos to Facebook.  I know some of you do not have, and do not want, accounts, but I'm wondering if you could just click on this link, to see if it takes you to my photos on facebook.  When you see the first picture, just hit the forward key and it will take you to the next photo.  Your mouse has to be over the picture when you hit the forward key.  I think there are 34 photos in all, each with a small comment underneath.  As long as you don't click "like" there should be no record of your visit to my facebook page.  My other options are to start a new temporary blog, or to just bite the bullet and pay the significantly higher cost for more storage on the new plan.  It would be wonderful if you left a comment here, either about the pictures, or just to let me know how this facebook idea worked.

  2. Thanks, TexWisGirl. Did you try clicking the forward arrow to go to the next photos?

  3. Sorry, one more thing. Your mouse needs to be over the picture when you hit the forward arrow.

  4. It worked perfectly for me!! I would be so sad not to have the commentary because I think it adds so much to the pictures. Other people post pictures of people and places with no explanation and I find that frustrating! Soooooo, I hope you will be able to continue as before! :) Phyllis

  5. Hi Carol, Maybe it’s because I haven’t activated my Facebook account, which I did start but am not currently using. I do see the bear but no arrow to let me see further pictures.

I did some exploring at http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1224181

They say photos up to 800 x 800 pixels won't count towards your storage. If you right mouse click on “Properties” at your pictures you will see few shots exceed that size. Maybe you can continue to post pictures even though your storage for larger photos has run out? Just wondering if that is a possibility?

  6. Oh, Island Rambles, Phyllis and Penelope, thank you so much for your input. I will look into each suggestion. Penelope, the arrow is not on the screen but the one on your keyboard, bottom right (at least on my laptop). Hover your mouse over the first photo, and then hit that arrow key on your keyboard. Thank you all again for bearing with me while I sort this out!

  7. Oooh, that sun was an impressive ball of fire. The evening sky over Yaletown is a nice contrast to all that glass and concrete. However the pleasure is somewhat diminished without your usual commentary.

  8. Thanks, Fred the Dog. I just added a few more pictures, including the Mew Gull and heron at Deboville Slough. Added more commentary as well under each picture. But, I hear you :)

  9. That worked for me, Carol (and I'm not a facebook user) - no need to click the arrow, I just put the mouse over the first photo and then left-clicked my mouse and it took me through all of them.
I'm curious about the charges for more space - is this something new, an increase, that I will get hit with? I pay about $5/year, and I checked the flicker account (which is what blogger loads them onto when I upload directly from my own computer to Blogger), and have only used 11% of my space. Although I don't post quite as many photos as you, I've been doing it since January 2008 and would have thought I would be not far behind you in usage.
Oh, and on forum I use, I frequently upload to Photobucket so cyberfriends can see my photos or videos - I've found it very easy to use and easy to link to the forum.

  10. It worked fine for me, Carol. AND, I sent you a "friend request" so I can see your photos any time! lol You sure get a different perspective from what I get and I'm only thru the tunnel away from you! Nice shots!

  11. One thing you can do is upload photos to flickr or photobucket. They have a certain amount of free storage. A lot more than blogger. Then you just copy the code into your post as you write it. That's what I've been doing for years because I got near the limits with blogger storage space. You select the html/bb code from those sites and when you copy it into the blogger post, the picture shows up in your post.

  12. I was only able to see the first photo. Right clicking/left clicking did nothing -- neither did using arrow keys... I think this only works if you're logged in, or have closed a facebook session without logging out.

None of my business... but have you checked the facebook TOS??? I think your art is too good to just give away to facebook.

  13. fb? it worked. here's my suggestion: you can make another google account (b) and then make acct b an admin to your blog. acct b will get blogger space and you can post on your blog as acct b.

the bad side of this is you have to follow your fave blogs again or just go back to acct A to see your followings. just sayin' hope it works.

  18. So sorry for the hassle, those who have tried and been unable to move ahead on the pictures. This morning, I tried, and found it inconsistent. Sometimes, it worked, and sometimes it didn't. Then, I noticed a little "next" and "back" at the top right of the photo. It worked, but doesn't appear all the time. I so appreciate all the input. I do not think I will stick with this facebook idea, and am exploring some of the other options suggested. Hope you will bear with me in the mean time. Thanks again to each and every commenter: I will be over to explore some of your blogs a bit later this afternoon.

  19. I came to mama and baby bear alright.

You are the second I see that get that message tonignt. Do you post large images? My images are rarely lesser then 300kb, 700pix wide. Images that small does not count when they look for the storage. If you usually have big shots maybe you can try small ones. On all my blogs I have used less then 10% of allowed storage.

  20. Hope you get your blogger fixed; I'm on FB, but it is a hassle to me. I go on to see my grandkids pix, but forget about it for long periods of time.... I'll try to look at yours and check back here once in a while.
