Sunny Wednesday

Wednesday  was really sunny, but also really cold.  I was a little concerned that there might be a thin layer of black ice, but the ride turned out just fine except for my oh so cold hands.  At lunch time, I found time to go outside and enjoy the school surroundings.
I keep coming across these berries and find them beautiful.
I sat on these rocks by the river for a while. The ducks were fun to watch.  Every few seconds, the light changed on the water.

I was very late heading home.  Sometime after nine, four raccoons decided to cross Pacific.  Even late at night, there is always fast-moving traffic there.  I was grateful to the lady who stopped and put her four-way flashers on, trying to warn motorists to slow down.  In the picture below, two were determined to cross the street again.  The third appears to be ready to follow them.
I made some threatening motions and, although they at first completely ignored me, they finally thought better of it, and turned back towards the hedge behind them.  Maybe they know a thing or two more than I thought, since all seem to have survived just fine without my interference.
This was in our staff news letter.  It seemed a tad different from the many I've seen before.

"What you would learn if a dog were your teacher"
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout..! run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

  1. Stop when you've had enough? My dogs would be huge on that eating philosophy. Otherwise that's pretty good. I like "practice obedience when it's in your best interest".

Wednesday was a treat. Glad you got some photographic evidence. After hooking you on neoprene gloves I'm now searching for something to keep my hands warm while doing chores.

  2. The same thought went through my mind about the eating philosophy. And yeah, the "best interest" part made me smile.

The neoprene gloves are working GREAT when they're wet, and for temps 5 degrees or above, but for the sunny, cold days, I've had to resort to cumbersome, ugly, mustard yellow, Mark's Work Wearhouse fleece-lined ones. If you discover something better, let me know!
